Thanks Veikko and Harald for raising the issues of crepuscular ray terminology. The Oxford dictionary gives crepuscular as deriving from the Latin crepusculum for twilight. In that sense the term might be better
restricted to true twilight rays which are relatively high in the atmosphere
and cast by distant mountains or clouds.

What to call non twilight rays? As children we simply called them sun rays
or sunbeams! Anyway, I look forward to more suggestions and discussion.
