Tropopause is the top of troposphere, which in turn is the lowest part of the
atmosphere (this definition is based on the profile of mean temperature). Troposphere is the region where all the weather phenomena take place and consist some 80-85 percent of the total mass of the atmosphere. Right above troposhere is the stratosphere (tropopause is between these) and above stratosphere is the mesosphere (and between these is the stratopause). Above mesosphere is thermosphere, but the air is already so thin that it is more like wandering molecules and ions that a gas. Hope this helped.
