Pascal:

No, I hadn't been drinking, and my wife and mother both were also witnesses. I am ever so sorry that I had no camera.

Subject: Re: [METEOPTIC] double rainbow?

hi, James

About your double rainbow, I dont want to suspect that you were drunk...

But I think that a reflection upon water could not produce your "golden arches". A horizontal displacement can only be created by a reflection on a
vertical surface. This way the two sources of light (procucing the two centers
for the two different bows) are also horizontal. But how could you get a vertical surface big enough to lighten a whole rainshower? Strange indeed.
I seem to remember a drawing - could be in Greenler's wonderfull book, if not,
it could be in any of the numerous websites I have visited about atmospheric
optics - from an ancient (one century or more?) observation of such double
rainbows. No explanation was proposed...

Well... Waiting for other reactions...

Regards,

 Pascal
