Dear members of the mailing list,

On June, 25th I made an exciting observation: I saw an illuminated trail of a giant fireball with an extraordinary brightness. At the moment of the incoming of the meteoroid I looked to the eastern horizon. I did not watch a flash up because at 20:23 UT the dawn was still to bright. Some moments later I discovered the glaring trail at the height of 10° northnorthwest of my place.

First the trail of the meteor, lighted up by the sun was comparable with a sharp bounded vapor trail of a jet; but within some minutes the shape changed dramatically from indentations to big loops. This was a proof of strong winds in high layers of earth atmosphere. Quickly the left and right parts of the cloud moved southward whereas the section in the middle stood still.

With the naked eyes the trail of the meteor was visible from 20:23 till 20:40 (!) UT, with my field-glass till 20:45 UT. At the end of the observation the cloud was shining dim in the light of the half moon.

Look carefully at the symmetrical figure of the trail! Would it be possible that the meteor did not fall towards earth but got back into space and streaked the atmosphere only? I have heared about such events. The distortions of the trail due to the winds at the beginning and the end are almost the same - the second loop at the right hand-side is only visible in the original slide but not in the scan.
