  1. MOTHER OF PEARL CLOUDS
At the very moment (its morning hours going on here) there is patchy, faint mother of pearl clouds all over the sky in Helsinki.
>From my location the brightest area disappeared behind
lower clouds about 15-30 minutes ago. Likewise there was polar stratospheric cloud displays in Southern Finland 2 days ago in the evening and on some days before that.

2. OIMAKON EXPEDITION Riikonen, Moilanen and Ruoskanen (all members of METEOPTIC) who left us before X- mas to hunt for e.g. new halos in outer reaches of Siberia have on 11. January finally managed to get a small airplane from Yakutsk to Oimakon, the coldest inhabited (small village of Yakutians) place in the northern hemisphere. Lets hope the best of luck for them.

Regards, Marko
