Thanks for all the good information clarifying and explaining what I saw from the airplane which I had considered to be a "glory" on the ground. I have learned a lot and am enjoying continuing to follow the thread.

As further clarification of some of the questions raised by the responders:

     There was "no" moisture in the air or on the ground.  It
     occurred all morning long until we came in around noon so
     the sun would have burned off any dew left on the ground.
     The sky was cloudless and there was no fog.

     I did notice that the image was white with no color except
     a slight hint of color every once in a while around the outer
     portion.

     The types of ground cover on which the image was appearing
     varied from wooded to plowed fields to bare dirt to crops,
     etc.  Throughout, the only variation was the brightness of
     the image.  The shadow of the airplane remained a constant
     darkness.

There is no need to respond to these items, I just wanted to add some clarification.
