I was in Eastern Finland and saw also that 29/30th display.   In Imatra the sky was overcasted already at 0.30, but in   already in midnight the display was very bright and complex.   The dominating feature was and area of strongly whirled   forms. On the lower altitudes the bands were very bright.

One other point of NLCs. I visit about two weeks ago in   Turku. Pekka Parvianen and one American student Maija   Niska had a project of stereographic pohtographing on NLCs.   Maija take images in the fixed place, which location have   been check by GPS. Pekka drive car perpendicalur direction   of major NLC area. The used baseline was about 10 km. Both   photographer had cellular phone by which they could check   imaging direction and timings. The target of this project   is create 3D model of display and compare it to gravity   wave models.
