The second-largest of its kind in Finland, Tampere University of Technology specializes in the highest academic education and research in technology and architecture. Excellent contacts with industry and commerce have distinguished TUT as the University for Industry. There are altogether about 9000 students in TUT.
For the years 2000-2005, TUT has three national Centres of Excellence in Research, nominated by the Academy of Finland: the Signal Processing Research Group, the Institute of Hydraulics and Automation, and the Biomaterials Research Group. The Department of Architecture has been nominated as one of only two Finnish Centres of Excellence in Art for the years 1999-2000.
TUT is known as the University for Industry, flexibly connecting expertise in different fields of technology and economics. Research is carried out in close contact with industry.
