Aurora photos and post-processing

Many people who have poor knowledge about northern lights photography think that the images are mostly created in the post-processing stage with Photoshop or similar software. There really can't be anything that beautiful in the natural night sky? Yes there can be. This is the real thing! That's why we've decided to keep post-processing of our images to the minimum.

The images at this website have mostly gone through these post-processing stages:

  • The image resolution is changed from the camera's original to something smaller and more practical.
  • Our team's names are added to the lower right corner of the images.
  • Some images may be cropped from the camera originals.

If something else is done to the image it's also mentioned in the website's image description.

We don't support colour enhancement (read: forgery) in aurora photograps. We think that a skilled photographer can get visually impressive pictures without using such digital magic. This is mostly done by choosing the right exposure time and using the right equipment. Of course there is always some luck involved. :-)
