Comet LONEOS 2007

After returning home from the countryside, I took one last look at the comet LONEOS from our backyard in Tampere, Finland.

The clear weekend was ideal for some cometspotting in Ruokolahti near the russian border. Even if my half-broken temporary binoculars didn't reveal the comet, the greenish dot could be easily identified from the pictures (between the two drawn lines).

A faint tail could be seen in the pictures. To get it fully visible, we had to enhance the picture a bit (thanks Henrik for your help!).

The moonles autumn night revealed a sight one can only dream of in the urban environment. There wan't a slightest problem in identifying the dusty Milky Way over the family farm.

Even a faint, greenish band of aurora was visible at the northern horizon.
