Our eclipse group at a road sign along the Stuart Highway (Highway 87, 31°09'15"S, 136°02'25"E), South Australia.

From left to right: Antti, Henrik, Emma, Sami, Pasi and our guest star Janne. Road officials had kindly put these road signs as well as a 60 km/h speed limit (instead of the standard 110 km/h) to the totality line.

Emma's first trick shot: the sun is shot through a welder's glass (DIN 13) while the group of people is reflected from the same glass. Notice the camera's (Canon PowerShot G2) own reflection at the right hand side of the picture. From left to right: Antti and the head of Pasi. Gamma 2.5 has been applied to the picture.

A picture shot and manipulated in a similar way to the previous one. From left to right: Henrik, Antti, Janne and half of Pasi's head in his hat.

Sami was looking at the Sun with a welder's glass at arms length. This picture is an adaptation of the same theme, with Antti in the picture.

The pre-totality diamond ring phase.

Another pre-totality diamond ring picture, this time using more light.

Beginning of totality. The magic is here, although the picture doesn't really show the blackness of the moon and the beautiful blueness of the sky (more on that a little later).

A picture taken at the same time, but with less light to the camera. This picture doesn't show the corona, but instead the nice protuberance red colours. Emma's name for the picture: "The One Ring".

This picture is an attempt at showing the blue sky at the same time as the blackness of the moon. I particularly wanted to get this photo because I don't remember seeing too many pictures that would catch the beautiful colours of a sunset combined with a total eclipse.

Post-totality diamond effect, lasting only for less than two seconds.

Soundtrack playing on CD: "And everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon......"

Post-totality diamond ring effect.

Post-totality diamond ring with more light, showing interestingly shaped lens flares (or energy creatures if you will).

Unbelievably good picture of almost total eclipse combined with Antti, Henrik and Pasi. Gamma 2.5 has been applied to the picture (but shot directly towards the sun: no welder's glass trick used here).

Outback sunset with lens flares showing the degree of occultation.

When I was a kid, I took a picture of the two horns of the sun during an eclipse sunset in my home country, Finland. That photo was unfortunately lost years ago, and here is a meek attempt at recapturing that image. This time horns were not quite as equally sized, but it'll have to do until a better eclipse occurs.

Earth shadow colouring the opposite side of the sunset.

What an opportunity! To come from the snowy city of Tampere all the way here Down Under to see this monumental light show that is almost as huge as and definitely different from the Northern Lights!

And to the asshole who stole half of our wallets and passports during the next night in Port Augusta: you didn't get our cameras, photos nor memories, ha-ha!
