Rihlaperä Observatory

Sirius ry has it's own observatory in Rihlaperä, two kilometers from the downtown area. There is powerfull and modern equipment for observing the sky. The use of observatory is free for all the members. The Main telescope is a 150/2063mm refractor made by a famous Finnish astronomer Yrjö Vaisala. Public star shows are held during the winter time from beginning of November to the end of March.

    CCD camera

    During the years 1994-1995 we used ST-6 CCD which owned by Olympos ry. Check some older CCD-images taken at Rihlapera Observatory here.

    Computer guiding

    Observatory is computerized by selfmade telescope control system and a ccd-imaging computer. With a help of computer guiding and CCD it´s easy to find even very dim objects from ours city´s dirty sky. There are almost 14.000 deep sky objects in our computer memory including the Sun and the planets
