Yes, I agree; as with rainbows, I believe that I saw two different reflected images, one with each eye, and two different "primary" images, again one with each eye.

In my theory this holds, anyway, in an instantaneous analysis.

In "real time", with each miniscule change in my head's position, I must have seen yet additional, in principle "different" images. The same is no doubt true of the movements of the surface of the bay, with each wave and wavelet causing changes in the angles of reflection. Presumably the same argument would apply to atmospheric changes that affected the light paths from the "parahelion" in the ice crystals aloft on their way to my eyes, and to the constant changes in the positions and orientations of the individual ice crystals as well.

In other words, an infinity of "perihelia"!

Does this make sense?

catch the same beams of light can they? And your original "parahelion" will

That is, each eye sees its own original "parahelion". Looking at the reflection each eye sees its own reflection.

See what the others say.

What you say about the change in contrast of image in the reflection makes
sense.
I have noticed that when viewing sundogs and coronas in water surfaces.
