Welcome to the site of finnish Deep Sky -section!This story is true and it even has a happy end. The history of Finnish Deep Sky Section is long and full of glory. The section belongs to the astronomical association Ursa which has its headquarters in Helsinki but it covers all the Finland. There are also several other sections for different fields of astronomy. The goal of the section is to act as a connection between Finnish deep sky -observers, to help them in their observing and to publish observations. One of the main goals is also to keep contact to deep sky -observers and organizations all around the world. The section is using different means to achieve its goal. Next we'll take a quick look at what this means:
The Deep Sky Section is definitely one of the most active sections among astronomical association Ursa. It has about 20 members. Traditionally also activity has been great, the fact that's supported by the huge amount of sketches and observing notes sent to the section every year (our sketch archive contains already about 3200 cards) The section also has its own meeting annually. The Deep Sky Section is one the most easily notable sections, thanks to the columns in two major finnish magazines Tähdet ja Avaruus (Stars and Space) and Ursa Minor. The columns are not least notable for their huge length.
