A model of the solar system was completed in June 1992 in Helsinki and partly in Espoo. Its purpose is to give everyone interested an informative image of the structure and scale of the solar system. The scale of the model is 1:1 US billion, which means that one millimeter in the model equals one thousand kilometers in the solar system or that one meter equals one million kilometers. The scale, in practice, is the only one in which the sizes of the sun, the planets and their distances could be sensibly implemented.
