Pocket CCD as wide field astro cam Pocket CCD as wide field astro cam

Site:Hinthaara, Porvoo, Finland
Targets:Orion and Big Dipper
Camera:Olympus Camedia C3030-Zoom
Time:16.1.2001 starting at 22:00EET
Using a pocket camera for long exposures requires freezing outside temperatures. I tested my camera when it was just below zero degrees Celsius. I could take a half dozen images at a time and then the camera must be shut down to be cooled to surrounding temperatures again. The maximum shutter speed is - and was used here - 16 seconds. Stars down to magnitude 6.5 were visible in the image files.
